Trying To Think Positive Only Makes You More Negative
April 11th, 2011Everything you read or hear anymore is always the same, "you need to think positive thoughts and stay focused on your goals."
Although this is true, it is often easier said than done. In fact, "trying" to be positive might be the very reason you are having negative thoughts and feelings in the first place.
Let me explain. When you experience a negative thought or feeling, you start thinking, "I need to quit thinking this way. These feelings are bad. I need to bury these feelings."
You probably already know that you attract what you think about or give attention to. Well, when you start trying to bury or get rid of a negative thought or feeling, what are you thinking about? What are you giving your attention to? That's right, the negative thought.
And to make thinks worse, the law of attraction, in reality, works on what you feel, not what you think. So when you are "trying" to eradicate a negative thought, pay attention to the amount of "energy" that you are putting on removing the thought.
Not only are you focusing on the negative idea, you are bringing more of it, because you are putting your entire self into focusing on the negative emotion.
Think about it, do you know what your next thought will be? I can't, and I have never met anyone who can. You can't get rid of a thought, you can only replace it with something else.
How do you replace a negative thought?
One very powerful technique is to use the negative thought as a signal that you need to visualize or think about something that brings you happiness. Something you are thankful for, is a perfect thought to replace a negative one with.
Once the positive thought comes in, it automatically replaces the negative one.
Now you are focusing on something that is good, with out the judgment and energy on the negative.
The major key here is to only notice the negative and not give it any power by trying to get rid of it. Simply notice that you are feeling bad and use that emotion as an indicator that you need to direct your thoughts to something better.
Using this technique, you can actually welcome the negative, because it is now your compass to know that you are slightly off course.
